Indoor/outdoor design was born in Los Angeles, and it’s an architectural practice that is constantly being re-invented and refined here. But what if your outdoor space just isn’t that spacious?
The good news: You don’t need acres of land to ace the look and feel of effortless flow. In this newly designed architectural home in Venice’s Silver Triangle, the great room opens up to small but highly soothing outdoor area. But using a few design tricks, architects managed to maintain the room’s privacy while welcoming in the outdoors.
Here’s how they did it: Opt for window treatments that don’t take up space. Skip the French doors and opt for sliders, pocket or accordion windows. Then keep the palette simple. When you’re dealing with a small outdoor space, less is definitely more – don’t clutter it up with too much.
Finally, if your outdoor space is short on square footage, a water feature will give the area a huge sense of Zen calm.
